Thank you, Mrs. McCaskey!
We can't fully tell you how happy and thankful we were that Mrs. McCaskey volunteered to work with our classical first graders again this year. Mrs. McCaskey has been volunteering her time almost every week with the most amazing lessons. She is an amazing teacher that not only inspires the students but also the staff. Mrs. McCaskey just finished up a unit about The Underground Railroad. We have no doubt this year is special and memorable because of her. Thank you Mrs. McCaskey for all that you do!

EmpowHer STEM Opportunity for 3rd & 4th Grade Girls
Dear Parents,
EmpowHer STEM is a great extracurricular STEM opportunity for your 3rd and 4th grade daughters. EmpowHer STEM is run by a group of female students from Whitney Young Magnet High School and former Skinner West Superstarts where they teach fun and engaging math lessons not typically covered in a classroom setting. Their goal is to encourage young girls' confidence and increase their interest in STEM.
The Spring session will begin on March 20th and run until the week of May 29th. The program is completely virtual and free of cost to families. You can sign your daughter up for free virtual classes here. Feel free to reach out to EmpowHer STEM with questions at wy.empowherstem@gmail.com.

The purpose of the PPLC is to present recommendations to the principal and the Local School Council (LSC) on all matters related to the educational program, including curriculum, the school improvement plan, and the school budget.
PPLC meetings are monthly and open to the public. The next meeting will take place on February 21 at 4:00pm in Room 226 of the Main Building. There is an option to join via Google Meet. The link is included in the meeting agenda below.

Student Safety Alerts
⚠️ Students who wear Heelys shoes (that have the roller wheels at the bottom) are at risk of hurting themselves and others. This is particularly dangerous because some students are skating down the halls, falling, and bumping into their peers. Some students are attempting to walk up flights of stairs with the roller wheels engaged. Please remind children to make sure Heelys are in "walk mode", and they should not "roll" while inside of the school.
⚠️ Students are not permitted to bring over the counter medicine to school. Students who receive supervised, prescription medicine (during the school day) must have documentation on file with the Case Manager, Ms. Luna. Contact Ms. Luna if you have questions, comments, or concerns.
